Ten New Organisations for 2300AD
Introduction
This article presents another ten organisations for Referees to use in their 2300AD scenarios. It is a follow-up to Janvier 2301's article on organisations.
Organisations
Brod

Founded: 2223.
Based: Tirane.
Domain: French and American Arms, Core.
Purpose: Data recovery and authentication.
Description: Brod are a chain of franchises specialise in recovering, restoring and decoding pre-Twilight and proprietary formats. And not just if you hand them the disk. Following the Kafer Invasion, Brod are active tracking down computers and documents looted, scattered or presumed destroyed.
History: In 2274 one Brod franchise on the American Arm was closed down for faking some of the documents it claimed to have discovered in a major land dispute, but the organisation as a whole has survived with its reputation for professional and discrete service intact
Scenarios:
- Recovering computer data or documents by stealth or force from Kafer marauders, human looters, or no-man's-land territory.
- Recovering stolen data from crackers by breaking into their cyberspace fortress and breaking the encryption on the stolen data
- Authenticating some documents claiming to cast doubt on the ownership of the land Earth (or Beta Canum's) beanstalk is built on.
EIEIO

Founded: 2268.
Based: Paris and Berlin, Earth.
Domain: Europe, Earth
Purpose: The European International Economic Integration Organisation.
Description: A European integration group with an economic agenda. EIEIO is a meta-organisation lobbying charities, businesses and governments to realise the centuries-old dream of a Franco-German empire as a means to bring peace and above all prosperity to Europe.
History: Founded after the Franco-Prussian war, EIEIO began as an idealistic group of young intellectuals in the economic and law academies of France and Germany. As time has gone on, EIEIO have become increasingly desparate to realise their dream, and their dream has become more one of imminent self-enrichment rather than of eventual common wealth.
Scenarios:
Herd

Founded: 2301.
Based: Libreville, Africa, Earth.
Domain: The Core.
Purpose: Individual, independent, rebellious, don't care, street-level music.
Description: Founded by Earth's largest media conglomerate through a carefully constructed labyrinth of shell companies, Herd have become the must-play sound of the early 2300s. It would be devastating to their incredible profits (and the conglomerate's future replay and compilation revenue) if the truth were to come out...
History: Only three years old, Herd is the defining alternative sound of the post-Invasion cultural scene at the core.
Scenarios:
- The truth will out. But how? A disgruntled employee, an investigative reporter, a cracker following the revenue trail, or the PCs finding out as part of another scenario. Then what?
Last

Founded: 2077
Based: London, England, Earth.
Domain: The Core.
Purpose: Document and artefact preservation and restoration.
Description: Even artifact replacement and recovery if you ask off-record...
History: A family business for two centuries, the latest Last heiress has taken a more hands-on, unorthodox approach than her parents.

Mimica

Founded: 2292
Based: Brasilia, Brazil, Earth
Domain: The Core, Some activity on the Arms.
Purpose: Builders of automata, follies, proxy AIs, and for the right price replacement people.
Description: .
History: .
Scenarios:
radic

Founded: 2279
Based: Los Angeles, America, Earth.
Domain: Human Sphere.
Purpose: Geo-social cartographic extrapolation company.
Description: Radic undertake secret surveys of landscapes and people for corporate clients who need extra leverage in negotiations.
History: Their research was vital in breaking the mining strike at Wellon in 2284, and has led to reduced bids for mining rights on a number of worlds.
Scenarios:
- Infiltrating a mine.
- Surveying an area
- A street-level survey. Which the local megacorp has hired an army of actors to skew.
Twin

Founded: 2017.
Based:
Domain: American and Chinese Arms.
Purpose: Builders of big computers.
Description: Twin make biiiiig computers. Computers so big, no human being has ever seen all of one, let alone tested it. Its software has to write and debug itself, and their hardware provides its own tech support. Two of their computers have seats on their own board of directors, and the few remaining Human designers and programmers in the company aren't expecting to work there much longer.
History: Despite several of their computers being linked to major accidents and suspicious deaths, Twin have avoided prosecution or even investigation through their close links with governments and corporate giants. Twin's usual defense is that "user error" was to blame.
Scenarios:
- If you ever need a big, unfriendly, preferably homocidal computer in a scenario, just ask Twin.
Ucom

Founded: 2248
Based: Tirane.
Domain: French Arm.
Purpose: Telecommunications infrastructure company.
Description: Helping rebuild and protect communications networks on colony worlds after the Kafer Invasion.
History: Nothing interesting had ever happened in Ucom's history prior to 2302. A moderately successful telecommunications infrastructure company, it survived the Kafer Invaasion intact and has found itself one of the few available company capable of rebuilding communications on colonies on the French Arm.

- Protecting the network.
- Sabotage to make work.
Xpans

Founded: 2209
Based: Tirane.
Domain: American Arm.
Purpose: Psychological Environmental Engineers.
Description: Xpans specialise in making cramped colonial accommodation look bigger. Spatial cues, psychetecture, screensavers, billboards and tromp l'oeil wall paintings are their stock in trade. Basically they paint corridors and rooms to look bigger, lighter, more welcoming and more refreshing than they actually are. It's a skilled process requiring a finely-judged balance between manipulating the eye and mind and giving a beneficial effect. Which means that if they get things wrong the effect on pressure-cooker communities can be dramatic.
History: Created to help a new wave of orbital and sealed environments avoid the huge costs of colonists psychological problems, Xpans has done its job well for almost a century. Following the Kafer Invasion, new techniques, bigger contracts and calls for assistance from open colonies are drawing Xpans into unknown territory. If their new designers make any mistakes, the effects could unbalance an already disturbed population.
Scenarios:
- A colonist has flushed themselves out of the airlock of an orbital complex. The complex authorities are blaming the new Xpans decor for this, but the Xpans designers deny it. One of the designers has altered the designs to specifically drive one of the colonists insane as revenge for them having an affair with the designer's partner. But the colonist who died wasn't that individual, and the designer is worried that they've miscalculated. Their efforts to correct things cause more deaths, and the changes they make are causing their original target to turn psychotic. Which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't work in the environmental control department, in charge of life support for the complex. The PCs need to find out what's hapening, find out who's responsible, and stop a massacre.
Yiffco

Founded: 2272.
Based: Tirane.
Domain: French Arm.
Purpose: Animal bulk cloners and hybridisers.
Description: Yiffco are desperate for information on or examples of Pentapod biotechnological manufacturing facilities, and have spun off one of their research departments into a separate company with the specific aim of deniably infiltrating the Pentapod facilities on Beta Canum.
History: Late-comers to the colonial biotechnology scene, Yiffco have beaten the competition through aggressive marketing, research and buy-outs. They advanced the technology of mutationally activated seed to its present level, and are rumoured to be working with the American authorities to produce better home-grown food supplies for the colonists on King.
Scenarios:
- The PCs are hired to undertake or prevent the infiltration of the Pentapod facilities on Beta Canum. Either way, if they discover that the small research company involved is actually owned by Yiffco, all hell will break loose.
- The PCs are on a colony world where a much-needed consignment of Yiffco biotech is late. When the seed or embryos arrive, they are slightly mis-engineered. The PCs must correct the error with limited facilities or come up with a plan to avoid a food shortage at the colony until a replacement order can be sent many months later.
- A Yiffco organism is wreaking havoc with the local biosphere on a colony world. The PCs are hired by the colonists to correct or expose the problem against Yiffco's own team's wishes to cover up the problem and avoid a PR fiasco at any cost...
